In studies done it was found that energy drinks cause much more damage to teeth than sport drinks.
If you take energy drinks make sure you will wait an hour before brushing your teeth otherwise you will accelerate the damage to your teeyh.

For years dentists have been taking x-rays in order to diagnise cavities and such, now a new study has stated that x-rays can may be linked to a common form of benign brain cancer called menangioma. Several authors have noted few flaws in this study but news sensationalism is always there to hype up the what may be rather than scientific facts.
Having said that x-rays are of danger to ones health the same way aspirin or heart medications kill liver and kidneys, yet they are a necessary evil that need to be used. The usage though should be judicious.
At our dental clinic we only take x-rays when needed and donot follow a magic formula of one fits all. We are also confident that our fellow dentists do the same. Also we employ the latest technology to reduce the exposure rate. For the worriers out there i hope that eases your minds a bit

The causes of xerostomia include:medications such as beta bloquers, antidepressants, tranqulizers, diuretics, antihistamines, chemiotherapeutic drugscancer treatments).Radiation therapy to head and neck as well could affect the salivary glands which in turn causes xerostomia.
Nerve damage to the head and neck ,caused by surgery, area as well could affect salivary debit.Certain autoimmune conditions such as Sjograin’s syndrome, endocrine disorders(diabeties), stress ,anxiety, depression, and nutritional deficiencies could also cause dry mouth.
Permanent remedies do not exist, but this condition is combated by using a series of over the counter products, such as Biotene, and alcohol free mouth washes, by use of a water glycerine aerosol spray ,by change in diet and water intake.
Medications to stimulate salivary flow exist mainly pilocarpine(upon prescription). Recare visits of 3 months at the dentist is highly recommended for rampant caries prevention, together with floride trays to be worn at night.

In the older generation there are many who have lost all their teeth to cavities and periodontal disease.
Classically these people have been wearing dentures for a long time.
What denture wearers have to realise is that dentures are a lot like wooden legs used in pirate movies, and they are not completely physiologic. Well what does that mean?
teeth allow underlying bone to repair and reform itself, while dentures solely compress the tissue compromising the blood supply and aid accelerated bone resorption. As the bone resorbs the dentures fit to the underlying structure is compromised but since the changes occur slowly the patients compensate by muscular adjustements in order to hold dentures in place.
One of the complications caused by ill fitting dentures is a cut into the folds of gum which cause swelling and over growth of tissue. This condition is called Epulis fissuratum:
Dentures need to be checked every year by a dental professional for its fit and they need to be changed every 5-8 years.Of course the ideal solution would be implant placements with dentures that donot place any pressure onb the gums.

We are bombarded daily by images on T.V. showing whitening products , and as our life styles have changed and we live longer it has become more important to us to preserve the look of youth for as long as we can.
Teeth whitening has been around for at least the last century and the principals have not changed much. All whitening substances are peroxide based with differing concentrations and durabilities. Also the modes of delivery and activation are different. Some use blue light, some lasers ,some chemical activators but at the end of the day the effects are the same.
Peroxides infilterate the enemal and remove stains. How long the effect lasts is really dependant on the habbits of the person, i.e. how many coffe, orange juice, or food with colourants are ingested.
We have found a mixture of carbemide and hydrogen peroxide to work the best.We do use a mixture of blue and red light treatment, since these seem to cause the least sensativity.
If you are going to use at home kits please be aware of the possibility of chemical burns to your gums.
Heres to you having a whitter brighter smile

Cold soars are viral infections which tend to remain dormant in the neural ganglions till stimulated, where they manifest on the skin. They manifest at first with the patient feeling itchiness and discomfort and then by formation of blisters which are painful and uncomfortable. They eventually disapear leaving no scaring. The reason for reactivation of the virus can range from exposure to sun, cold, chemical exposure, etc. Regular treatments include antiviral medication ,effective if started in the first two days of infection, topical cream the effects of which are debatable.Recenly diode lasers have been used in treatment of cold soars. The mechanism of action of lasers on the virus is not clear but what is evident that the frequency and the length of attacks are shortened. The earlier treatments are started the faster and better the results.
So if you suffer from this affliction please ask your dentist regarding the subject of diode lasers.
yours for better health
